The new PC is on the way, due to arrive Tuesday. I haven't done anything with the songs since June as I'm waiting to see how the new PC will work out. I did not order the Audigy Platinum Ex so the sound quality may be the same. However, I'm going to try to invest in a new microphone and 1/4" to 1/8" adapter to facilitate better sounding vocals. Stay tuned as things may start to fire up again in the Raging Alley camp. Rage on.

Unfortunately, I have been extremely busy the last month or so and thus Raging Alley is on hold for a little while. I am getting a new computer in the next month or two, though. Also, things will lighten up a bit in July and August. I have PI working on the album cover. I will likely record all vocals on the new PC. I may even re-record everything if the new Audigy 2 is markedly better than what I have now. I hope to have the initial version of the album done by the end of August. The ultimate goal is to get real drums for the tracks and maybe record them on studio quality equipment. Until that can happen, the initial version of Forge will have to do. Rage on.

Got the solos for Steal My Soul finished tonight. I also attempted some vocals for Set The Good Aside. I'm not very happy with the quality and so I may wait until I get my new computer with Soundblaster Audigy 2 soundcard as well as a good microphone to record the vocals. Also, some of the tracks have a lot of background hiss which I hope I can clean up. Rage on.

Over the past 2 days, I have gotten a lot of work done on the album including the 10th and likely final song, Out of Time. I also completed all the main instrumentation for all the songs. Also, words and lyrics are done for a few of the songs. Solos are still mostly pending. Here is a current song list:
1. Divide (formerly Vader)
2. Low Rollin' (formerly Mace)
3. Mystify (formerly Obiwan)
4. Set the Good Aside
5. Restless
6. Nothing At All
7. Steal My Soul
8. Out of Time
9. Yoda (title pending)
10. Maul (title pending)
The titles of the first three songs are tentative as of now. Four through 8 are certain titles. Titles for nine and ten are pending. Work will continue later in the week. I'd say at least 2-3 weeks worth of work (if i worked on it every evening) are left; this includes editing, mastering, album design and layout, etc. It getting close!! Rage on.

I have commisioned a good friend, PI, to assist with the art work for the cover of the Forge album. I could come up with no good ideas as I have very little artistic vision. PI, however, posseses a plethora of art skills and will be invaluable in this endavor.
Also, when the album is complete, I will be sending free copies of the low-res (i.e.- homemade) version of the album to all my friends. In addition, other fans will be able to request a copy of the low-res version of the album here at Raging Alley Online. I will let you know how to do that in the coming weeks as I start taking preorders. The high-res version (meaning full color, properly printed and pressed) album will be on sale at the Raging Alley Cafepress site.
Finally, if all goes well tonight, I will get some more work done on the album. Rage on.

Big progress tonight. Two more songs, with placeholder titles of yoda and mace, have been written. I still have to fine tune some parts on yoda but mace is ready for some singing. I have a lot of words to write! Also, I have tentatively titled the first album Forge. I guess I picked the name because it sounds kinda cool and because this album is sort of a forging of different styles of music. There are hip-hop, metal, rock and acoustic elements to the different songs. In fact, here is a short synopsis of the songs so far:
1. Set The Good Aside- this is a slow, emotional song with a trip-hop-esque beat. I was listening to Massive Attack at the time and thought I'd try to write a beat that was in that vein.
2. Restless- another slow song; the only song so far to feature acoustic guitars. I wrote this one a few years ago. Originally it was slated for the latest Dillinger album. Once I could no longer participate in that group, I used the song for my solo act. The music is basically unchanged but I've redone the vocals since back then.
3. Steal My Soul- this one was also written back in the Dillinger days, actually right after our first album. It is an upbeat song with a strong bassline and a fairly heavy chugging guitar part that follows the bass. I had a devil of a time finding a good melody for it but I finally have. Now i just need words!
4. Nothing At All- a straight forward rock song with some good distorted guitar. One of the first ideas i had once i started writing again last year.
5. Vader- this is a song that is mostly bass driven. The guitar plays a secondary, but key, role. It starts with a heavy bass bit and then shifts into a melodic thingy. I wrote this one a couple nights ago; i was messing about on the bass when i just started playing the progression. An hour later I had a song!
6. Maul- a good rock tune with some good changes and a fun break. I wrote this one around the same time as nothing at all.
7. Obiwan- right now, obiwan is still unfinished. It is a hip-hop beat and bassline but I haven't really fleshed it out yet. I plan on doing so in the next few weeks.
8. Yoda- another good hard rock song; it's got a sort of zeppelin/sabbath groove to the main riff. The break has a good metal picking part that i'm having trouble staying in time with!
9. Mace- i came up with this one just tonight! It came together sort of like vader only this time, i was messing with beats when i came up with one i really liked. Then i added a funky bassline to it. My idea is to make the vocals sort of reznor-ish with intermittent yelling and whispering...kinda make it clash with the actual music. I think it will work...
Well, that's the update. I still have a long way to go. Most of these songs need something else done like words, solos, etc. But the initial ideas are there. I'm shooting for around 10-11 songs for Forge. So, one or two more ideas and then i'll top them all off and have an album! Keep checking here for updates. Rage on!
